Re: Brand New Training
There I was… sitting in my doctor's office for the 3rd week in a row. I left work again due to another migraine and I was getting nervous I’d be fired for missing so much time. It was on the last visit when my doctor asked: “Carol, what’s got you so stressed out?”
I suddenly felt this huge wave of embarrassment come over me…
Since 1991 I’d worked in hospitals teaching stress management to patients & medical staff. Here was my doctor telling me I wasn’t managing my own stress. The truth is… I was doing everything I’d been taught:
- eat healthy,
- spend time with family & friends,
- even volunteering.
What If Everything We’ve Been Taught
About Stress Management Is Wrong?
I started to understand what we’d been taught about managing stress was all wrong. Let me explain… I’d learned and I’m sure you did too that one of the best ways to manage stress was going to the gym. And I would do this everyday after I got off work.
The problem was my stress level would build up at work and by 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon the migraine hit. I found waiting to do something about my stress until after I got off wasn’t working.
And there was no free time during my day when I could take a break to go for a walk outside or even have a moment to relax. Many days, I was so busy I didn’t even have time for lunch. I’m sure you can relate to this!

Curious to find out if it was just a fluke, I immediately started teaching this system to patients and staff. And to my surprise, I found they too started having great success. Many reported cutting their stress & anxiety levels in half!
